The works on display in this gallery present a selection of new acquisitions, gifts, and long-term loans of contemporary artworks that bring a rich array of artistic approaches, cultural backgrounds, and geographical contexts into the collection of the Kemper Art Museum. Spanning a range of forms, mediums, and materials, this constellation of artworks underscores how contemporary artists are rethinking and broadening established narratives of art history. Key themes that run throughout include expanded notions of portraiture, storytelling, and queer representation.
